Client: Cambridge University, St Johns May Ball

Year: 2025 / 2024

Services: Projection Mapping

Sector: Live Events / Universities

The last two years we’ve had the privilege of crafting stunning visuals, light displays, soundscapes, and motion graphics to bring immersive storytelling to one of Cambridge’s most prestigious events – St John’s May Ball.

2024 – Mythical

The Brief : To produce animations that embrace and highlight the chapel’s architectural features, including windows and columns.

Incorporate projections of mythical creatures to align with the ball’s theme, ensuring that these creatures interact seamlessly with the chapel’s structure.

2025 – Behind the frame

We returned to St John’s College this year to create a bold and atmospheric projection for one of the most anticipated nights in the student calendar!

This year’s theme, Behind the Frame, was all about celebrating iconic works of art from across cultures and time periods.

From ancient markings to contemporary street pieces reimagined through motion, colour, and light.

We transformed the building into a living artwork; layered, immersive, and rich in visual storytelling. Our goal was to create something that felt both timeless and dynamic – a piece rooted in history, reimagined through a modern lens.

It’s always a privilege to work in such a historic setting and to collaborate on an event that’s both creatively ambitious and a spectacular celebration. We are grateful to have been invited back and to have played a part in one of the most ambitious student-run events in the UK.
